OMG! That’s My Butt!

Posted in The World of Fashion by Joede on the November 20th, 2008

As my butt (literally) is on Yarn and Fiber’s front page and their blog, it’s a good thing I’ve been working out for the last few months! You can imagine my surprise to see the backside of this women with wild curly hair and, and…her derriere! To think I went to their webite only to find out the proper spelling of Sereknity yarn to make my next big shawl!

The fashion show was for Twist Collective. It was a lot of fun to model these knitting patterns turned into reality. See all three parts of the show here.

Are You A Recessionista? Then Come Visit Black Pearl Creations!

There is a lot of talk of spending less on luxury items due to it being in poor taste. People don’t want to be seen as flaunting their relative wealth or success while many others are losing retirement accounts and jobs. However, in the fashion world, the idea is now to get the stylish, trendy look for less money. There is even a word for such budget-conscious divas: recessionista. But, honestly, after paying $1000 for silk pants, who wants to go back to $20 polyester? No one.

From the research I have conducted, no one is giving advice on where people can shop to still look trendy without breaking the bank and without looking like they shopped at Wal-Mart. Sure. TJMaxx/Marshalls are conducting an “Overnight Event” to extol the virtues of off-price shopping. And you still have second hand shops. The fact of the matter is, these places are not going to have the styles and up to date trends. And let’s face it, trends are still faithfully rolling out. Hooded blanket coats, tweed, cashmere are some of this season’s trends. Check your local, inexpensive big-box store; what do you find?

It’s obvious, everyone wants to go back to the classics without looking old and dated. There is also more emphasis on buying local and sustainability. And you are not going to get that from buying the Chinese made polyester pants at Wal-Mart. You will get it from independent designers such as Black Pearl Creations.

Hand crocheted garments, made in the USA, organic fibers, socially conscious, aware and active. This IS Black Pearl Creations.

Ghamp Apparel Launch!

Posted in The World of Fashion by Joede on the August 11th, 2008

I had the honor of attending Ghamp Apparel’s launch party this past weekend. It was such a joy to see young men doing something positive. I have a 13 year old son and it was a wonderful feeling to know there are young men he can look up to (and that I don’t have to censor!) Here are a couple of pics of me wearing one of their tee’s and a shot of the young men of Ghamp. Please visit their website to learn more about this revolutionary company!

Crocheted Jewelry!

Posted in The World of Fashion by Joede on the July 28th, 2008

I can honestly say I salivated at sight of the hand crocheted the jewelry at Miriam’s website. Yes, hand crocheted jewelry! It’s nice to know I am not the only crocheting fanatic out there! The workmanship and the creativity are absolutely stunning! My fall cashmere cowl sweater will look gorgeous with some of the shorter neckalaces. My crocheted funky over the knee legwarmers will look fantastic with a black top and a bejeweled crocheted work of art! I’ve left some samples here but visit Miriam’s website to really drool!

This one is my personal favorite.
